What is the Economic Security Initiative?
The Economic Security Initiative (ESI) is a person-centered, holistic approach to economic casework to address the needs of older adults experiencing economic distress. Lead organizations in the community serve as Economic Security Service Centers, where older adults in need can receive a comprehensive assessment of their situation, economic case management, referrals to community resources, and follow-up. ESI centers help seniors with a range of issues, including benefits enrollment, foreclosure counseling, and job training. Working with community partners, the ESI centers track the senior's progress toward the goal of economic security using a national definition with a local measure.
